Youth Employment & Development Coach
Role Description
Grow exists to unlock hope in young people. We do this by running an 8-week employment programme that integrates employment coaching with horticultural work experience.
Job title – Youth Employment and Development Coach
Contract – 2.5 days per week (six month fixed-term contract)
Salary – £22,000 per annum (pro rata)
Pension – 6% pension contribution
Holiday – 25 days per annum plus statutory (pro rata)
The role
- Developing relationships with referral agencies and recruiting young people onto the programme
- Welcoming young people to Grow training sessions; creating a warm and safe environment
- Leading group coaching sessions, including developing existing content and resources
- Conducting 1:1 sessions with trainees to assist activities including writing and editing CVs and proofreading job applications
- Supporting and/or leading work experience sessions in horticultural contexts
- Conducting admin tasks necessary to run and deliver Grow
- Occasional evening and weekend commitments
- Other ad hoc admin duties as required to support the development and running of the charity
Person specification
- Clear communication in both 1:1 and group settings
- Emotional resilience, particularly when faced with challenging behaviour
- The ability to demonstrate a non-judgemental approach, particularly when faced with young people’s accounts of their lives and experiences
- Some experience of recruitment processes
- Some experience of working with either young people or vulnerable people
- Some experience of coaching
- Responsive to feedback in order to improve coaching skills
Essential requirements
Any role offer is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
Training and support
Every team member will receive a free space on our ‘Introduction to Coaching’ training programme. The programme includes the following key modules:
- How to run an effective 1:1 coaching session
- How to coach a small group of young adults
- How to work safely with vulnerable young people
- Understanding the employment process
- How charities work (the basics)
